GO-K focusses on reproductive health addressing issues related to maternal and child health with the objective to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity as well as eradicate all forms of gender based violence

i) A Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health Service (RMCH) using Science and Faith-Based Approaches Project in Garissa county.



  • The project has reached over 14000 women/girls with awareness on the importance of seeking maternal and child health care services by working with FL & CHVs


  • There was a significant increase in the number of skilled deliveries, ANC/PNC services, immunization uptake and improve in the usage of modern contraceptives for child spacing.


i) Repairing Hope

The objective of this project is to improve maternal and female health in Garissa County, Kenya. The project worked with over 30,000 women and girls to eliminate fistula and its primary causes. It ran from August 2017 to March 2021.

  • Trained doctors, midwives, CHVs, CHEWs and FL/TBAs on fistula treatment, management.
  • Over 150 fistula victims weree successfully treated through surgeries while over 300 referrals were made.
  • Improved the capacity of Garissa County Referral Hospital by equipping its theatre to facilitate quality fistula surgeries.
  • It also created alternative livelihoods for faith leaders, TBAs and CHVs by establishing income generating activities (IGAs).


ii) Box for Life & Warm Hugs for Mothers

These project supported over 500 vulnerable mothers who had completed all 4 ANC visits and delivered in health facilities by providing kits with essentials for the first 6 months period after childbirth in Garissa County.



  • Over 500 boxes for life and mama kits were distributed.


  • The two projects promoted skilled deliveries and increased the uptake of ante and post-natal services in established health facilities.
  • Focused on faith based maternal health campaigns with support of local imams, religious scholars and community health workers to create awareness of the importance of skilled deliveries.
